A Design Trend for Spring Summer 2018 communicating an ‘Easy Optimism’

The sun relentlessly beats down on me as I write this post, most of us (people) are enjoying the 3rd mini-heatwave of the year; it’s hard to keep in mind that it’s only Tuesday and a work-day. Everything about today is screaming chill, relax, eat, drink, smile, enjoy and do all of this outdoors. I’m doing my best to comply, after all nature’s driving influence today has reminded me about my favorite design trend for the SS2018 and compelled me to share it with you.

An Uplifting Color Palette for Interiors Spring Summer 2018

An Uplifting Color Palette for Interiors Spring Summer 2018

The Spring/Summer season of 2018 will see the emergence of our trend Urban Planet, which has perhaps my favorite color palette for the year. It doesn’t contain my favorite color, but as a collection of colors it’s hard to beat.

The Urban Planet palette has a real pick-me-up look to it, a happy feel. This maybe because it’s essentially a story of metallics and they are always a favorite. Metallics have been are ever present and it seems fitting that they should now have their own trend for this summer season.

The Trend

Organic Matter is an ever evolving trend and this season we explore possible creative outcomes of an extreme naturalness; where nature quite literally takes control. We begin to rethink our relationship with nature as we integrate flowers and foliage into buildings, structures and into our home. From vertical gardens to urban farms, we embrace locally & home grown produce and rural environments in all our major cities.

Pattern & Product Direction

As we venture into spring designers focus on allowing nature to become the creator… from nature on land to nature in the sea. Coral and lichen like growths appear in shape and patterning while unpredictable, untamed and organically developed elements of nature are present on ceramics, tableware and interior fashion accessories.

Natural Styling

In order to promote the harmony between man and nature we explore combining multiple materials in the heart of our living environment. Raw, rustic reclaimed wood and concrete; mix with warm metallic features for a modern yet natural styling. Hammered and weathered-look metals, bark-like textures and leaf prints are key elements, while ceramic and porcelain tiles have an authentic geological aesthetic.

Color Stories

This color palette is an intriguing mix of urban neutrals and dazzling brights. As well as the coral and pink tones we also see a catalogue of botanical greens and crisp blues. An emergence of earthy pigments in all tones will dominate interior product from fresh mint to herb shades. This harmonious color relationship reflects our human desire to live in unity with earth.

Spring Summer 2016 Wedding Trend…Wild Urbanism

We have put together an inspiring colour palette for all you brides to be in 2016. Our Wild Urbanism trend translates beautifully into the perfect spring/summer wedding story.  It has a nomadic influence with a contemporary attitude; the combination of modern urban textures and naturally rustic finishes creates a romantic yet intriguing ambiance. This trend merges the inner city vibe with the great outdoors and combines both industrial and natural aesthetics; a mix of classic and bohemian styles to form a unique wedding theme.

From eco-friendly invitations to hand crafted concrete candle favours, the materials in this trend are about the raw and untreated. Rustic woods, concrete and grey toned linens dominate the decorative features. Centerpieces that include ivy, ferns and moss with unexpected pebbles, stones or bark work beautifully with organic floral arrangements. Edible wild flowers make pretty decorative ingredients for ice cubes and deserts.

The lush green foliage and wild floral greenery can be used to dress tables, cakes and even hair styles, florists will appreciate the fun combinations that can be created here. This trend is also perfect for colour play to create a more upbeat atmosphere. Accents of crisp mint, pop peach, and soft pinks with playful shades of yellow and lilac work well together or as individual combinations. Consider using these colours as highlights for groomsmen’s tie/bow ties, bridesmaids, flower accents, linens or centerpiece decorations. We will see floral print wedding dresses become more popular throughout 2016 along with subtle tones of soft pink, blush grey and warm peach emerging as key colours for bridal-wear; connecting perfectly with this trend.
