An Uplifting Color Palette for Interiors Spring Summer 2018

The Spring/Summer season of 2018 will see the emergence of our trend Urban Planet, which has perhaps my favorite color palette for the year. It doesn’t contain my favorite color, but as a collection of colors it’s hard to beat.

The Urban Planet palette has a real pick-me-up look to it, a happy feel. This maybe because it’s essentially a story of metallics and they are always a favorite. Metallics have been are ever present and it seems fitting that they should now have their own trend for this summer season.

There are updates on warm-metallics, such as Gold getting lighter, a Cosmic Pink shimmer and an intense dark version of Rose Gold. But perhaps the most significant metallic to note for this summer, will be the return to favor of ‘Silvered’ Metallics after such a long dominance of Copper and Gold.

All of these metallics are orbited by a spectrum of Lunar Grays, ending in an Eclipse Black.

On the Catwalks this palette will be used to provide a less gimmicky, less novelty tone to a space age inspired look; giving a much greater sense of glamor. The metallics make a strong statement, whilst the sahpes will be simple and bold, there are liquid-qualities to form and drape playing off against crisp, crushed qualities. The ‘attitude’ is intense, undaunted and has a striking impact.

For interiors the look for Urban Planet is perhaps, unexpected, for a Space Age inspired trend. Rather than a dark-abyss punctuated by brights, there are extremes of light and darkness across a deserted lunar landscape. The palette provides for a stylish and modest futuristic look rather than the stereotypical futuristic look traditionally associated with space-age design. There is a strong architectural quality to product design allowing this trend to set a new course for us to venture further into minimalism.

Texture at the Surface Design Show 2017

We visited the Surface Design Show back in February, a show that exhibits the latest in design and innovation for both interior and exterior surface applications. Design Hub – The Urban Gallery at Index Design Series; Dubai

If you follow us on social media you will have seen the countless updates from our recent trip to Dubai… The Index Design Series is a huge exhibition dedicated to creating the ultimate design experience for visitors. It encapsulates every facet of interiors including lighting, textiles and workplace design. It brings together the globe’s most knowledgeable influencers to discuss the latest trends and techniques and it inspires through unique design spaces and experiences to keep you at the forefront of design innovation.

The theme for this year was ‘Design for the Senses‘ which demonstrates how you can stimulate the senses through design and interiors. With this in mind we worked with the show organisers to create a number of interactive spaces to encourage the imagination of the visitor, to make people think about pushing the boundaries in terms of design and inspiring through sound, sight, smells and touch.
