So many of our apparent choices in this digital age are predetermined for us – we are constantly being directed. Online recommendations steer us away from what is unrelated, unfamiliar and unexpected. This effectively edits out anything that challenges our pre-existing beliefs and interests.
The Surface Design Show takes place in February at the Business Design centre in London, they focus on interior and exterior surfaces specific to the building, architectural and interior design industries. This show is a ‘must visit’ for us; you can learn from industry professionals, network and connect with innovative and exciting materials. This immersive environment enables us to select product from new designers for future projects, we are also able to confirm our past trend prediction in real time relating to themes, materials, colours and pattern design.
Last month we made the journey to the US to work at the International Surfaces Event (TISE) in Las Vegas. This exhibition is the largest North American floor covering, stone, and tile industry event and is the premier, global marketplace for buyers, specifiers, and influencers to purchase products, gain design and trend information, and develop their business strategies.
In our first Pinterest board release of the year; we are giving you all the inspiration you need, from pattern style and colour stories to product materials and texture direction. Check out our Pinterest Board!
Kerri Hollingsworth is the director of an.ti.quate, an Australian brand that creates quality upholstery designs with an environmentally conscious mind. We first became aware of her extraordinary upholstery work and business ethos when selecting exhibitors for our Trend Tours at the Australian International Furniture Fair last year. Her stand was a favourite stop on the tour and visitors loved hearing about her journey. an.ti.quate went on to win the ‘Best Small Stand’ award at the show. Kerri also presented fascinating talks about how she strives to have a zero waste business as part of our ‘She Says…’ seminar series feature on the Trend Hub at the show. Sustainability, the re-use of waste materials and recycling all play key roles in her creative process. The business was born from a love of upholstery and interior design, but it’s how the an.ti.quate story unfolds that makes it so inspirational. And we’re delighted Kerri has agreed to share her story with us in this guest post…
